Peter Hammond

Peter Hammond 23A BRYCE CANYON (National Park with the Pink Cliffs) is a place I've been to. I would recommend it...its beautiful.

the rock formations that look like dribbled sand are called "hoodoos". Apparently there is a Native American name for the place ("unka-timpe-wa-wince-pock-ich") that translates to "Red rocks standing like men in a bowl shaped canyon".

I've also been to 43A VALLEY FORGE (Washington locale).

It was a solid, tough puzzle. The SW gave us the most grief, with 43D VOWEL (One of an au pair?) and 44D ASYLA (Shelters) and 57A ELENORE (Title girl in a 1968 Turtles hit) and 59A LARGOS (They don't move quickly)....and worst for me, 52A WYWIWYG (Acronym for a kind of PC video screen display). Should have had the last one. Here is one of my favorite largos, from Dvorak's new World Symphony:

I think I prefer that to the Turtles, but feel free to judge yourself...
