Some interesting word today. the weirdes t for me was 27D ETSEQ (Bibliographical abbr.). Still don't know what this is. Let's see if we can find out [fake searching noises]....wikipedia says: "An abbreviation of the Latin phrase et sequens (et sequentes, et sequentia) meaning "and the following one or ones". It is used to identify a page citation that continues on the pages that follow, or a statutory section or subsection and the sections or subsections that follow it." I guess you can tell I haven't done a research paper in a while.
I liked 15A ONE OVER PAR's clue of "It's not bad for a duffer, and I likeed 64A EAT ONES HAT (Be forced to backpedal). Wanted to try something like "eats crow" first, but of course that's not quite right, and 7D CROW was already in the puzzle.
Two new words for me today. Ochlocracy is mob rule. I really like that word. Apparently, ET SEQ is a bibliographical abbreviation, which is kinda like et al, but different, apparently.
Trixie was Ed Norton's wife on The Honeymooners. Great TV show!

Well, the picture is wrong, but that will be fixed.
I wake up on Thursdays excited that it's Thursday. The best puzzles are on Thursday! But this puzzle is lame. Movies that start with a single letter? That is not a Thrusday puzzle theme.... I am now in a bad mood.

You'll note a very long time between our fill and completion time today. The culprit? 38A USA (____ for Africa) and 33D OAF (Klutz)...was uss/osf.
Something was askua here... A skua is a south polar bird.

Was out today at lunch, but did it solo later. Agree with Stein and Rex...dull, boring theme...but good fill. Let's have look at a bit of it.
Given that he's pretty common in xwords, I'm surprised we've never given 32A JABBA (____ the Hutt ("Star Wars Villain)) any time.
I don't know how to refer to that. Its not the "original"...yet, it is the original.
Anyway. We've also seen 38A ELLA (Jazzy Fitzgerald) many, many times, but she does deserve about as much air time as you can give her.
As I said, Rex liked the fill, except for 39A PREXY (Veep's superior). I hate it, too. One of those words that just never shows up anywhere. It fails the Nabes Test.
55A YALTA (1945 Conference Site) is one of those things you must know for It's Academic. Along with Tehran (same three: Stalin, Roosevelt, Churchill, in 1943), Cairo (Roosevelt, Churchill, and Chiang Kai-shek...the often throw this one in to trip you up...also in 1943), and Potsdam (1945, with Roosevelt dead, Truman replaced him).
11D LIFE SAVER (Candy with a hole in the middle) have a soft spot in my heart, as they were often the treat of choice from my grandmother. Pep-O-Mints, specifically.
OK, what's the theme today? "'ock and something"?
Is that a theme??

A hard puzzle today. It almost always is if Brendan Emmett Quigley is the author. Today we had five diamonds placed on the board. OK. But I don't really see the point. Was it a card theme? A gem theme? Were the diamonds placed in a particular way? Unless I am missing something, this, to me, is a Thursday dud.

we would have broken the record, but for two errors. Still a good time, though.
